| Some of my friends were excited for this movie when the previews first came out before we were bombarded by the fantastic Star Trek movie, but I personally had been less than impressed. Some of the CG effects (especially the running shots of the "Delta 6 Accelerator Suits") looked somewhat... plastic, and overall it was just sort of a roll-my-eyes moment for me. But as time has gone on, I'm starting to develop an itch for this upcoming G.I. Joe movie. I don't know why - maybe it has mostly to do with the fact that an extensive part of my childhood was spent on the toys, or maybe it's been the preliminary Rotten Tomatoes reviews giving it fairly generous verdicts - but I want to see this one. Part of it also is me hoping deep down that Marlon Wayans will actually amount to something in this movie. And I also hope that overall, my experience with this movie will give me what I was hoping to find in Transformers: RotF but did not find there.
Are you guys interested in checking this out? I think it's too early for me to decide who my favorite character is, but judging from the stuff I've seen so far, Snake Eyes looks like a sure-fire win. Who wouldn't vote for the former Darth Maul and X-Men's Toad? :)

| Actually, based on the preview, if we're going to talk about attractiveness, The Baroness gets my vote. Yowza! I don't know man, those yellow?-tinted specs do it for me. | |

| Saw this over the weekend. I enjoyed it. I thought it was better than T:RotF. I will put this out there: it was not a quality movie, but very entertaining nonetheless. Very fun popcorn flick. They had a lot of the lines you'd expect ('Knowing is half the battle' and 'Yo Joe!' to name a couple), but there were the typical cheese lines as well. I enjoyed seeing some of the ridiculous vehicles thrown in, but I'll admit that I was disappointed with the result of the Snake Eyes v. Storm Shadow fight. I thought there was a reasonable attempt at giving some of the characters back story which will hopefully be continued in the next movie (which I've heard is already being written).
Anyway, action and effects - 9/10, story - 7/10, acting/characters - 6/10.
Overall - 8/10. Entertaining popcorn flick.
Binary score - 1/1. (ie. I am not angry I spent my time or money to see this movie.)

| Nice. I echo Alex's thoughts, particularly about enjoying it more than Transformers 2. I had pretty low expectations for this movie, and I hadn't even bothered to expect anything that one would from "typical great" movies... so going in expecting a crappy popcorn flick, I felt I got a decent popcorn flick. Some of my other friends complained of the nonstop action and the explosions gave them dizziness and headaches... but I ate it all up.
I loved watching the young Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow beat the living daylights out of each other with various weapons. I hope Storm Shadow did not actually die!!!
One of my few big disappointments with this movie, however, was how The Baroness was reduced to a whimpering pile of nothing by movie's end. I would have appreciated her staying the way she was, canon story or not. One of my friends mentioned that it was because you can't have two tough chicks in the same movie... but I heartily disagree! The Baroness vs. Scarlett conflict was great, and I would have liked to see that in future sequels.
By the way, I thought Joseph Gordon-Leavitt's performance as Cobra Commander was delightfully, childishly wonderful. I'm not so sure I like his new look, though.

Yeah, it would've been nice for them to keep strong female characters. Lady Jaye, Scarlett, the Baroness, Cover Girl... even though it's called G.I. Joe it has still had good female characters. - Boomerwang wrote:

I thought he did a good job as Cobra commander, but the mask... ehhhhh. Gimme old school!
