1). Watchmen = Awesome? Discuss. For reference, consult page 1337 of your textbook.

I don't know anything about Watchmen, but just judging by the link, it could be. I mean, goodness, the music was perfect for the preview. The preview itself somehow tells me this isn't just an ordinary superhero excursion. Sort of like The Prestige - there's something here I can't quite put my finger on, but it somehow involves something mysterious, profound.

I have never really been a comic-nerd... though, I'm sure if I started down that path it would be taken quite far. That being said, I really want to read Watchmen (the "graphic novel") before seeing this movie. I am not really familiar at all with the story, but have been told by nearly all my friends who are into such things that this is the graphic novel to read. So... I don't know anything about it, but I've already added it to my 'must list' for 2009.

I did some research on the backstory, and the whole thing reminds me a lot of the feeling of Bioshock, if you got a chance to play that (if not, it's definitely worth renting/buying). It's not really a story about superheroes so much as it is a vehicle for a position on morality -- pure utilitarianism vs deontological ethics. Since this IS a roleplaying forum, i'll go ahead and make the "chaotic vs lawful good" comparison. It also happens to remind me of Hauser's Trolley problems (this was the best link i could find, but it's not very good). I dunno...it could be amazing, but i'm not going to hold my breath.
